Screened by high mountain ranges to the north and south, annual precipitation is only around 800 mm in this area, about half as much as in the Bavarian mountains.

The amount of sunshine is even 10% higher than in Bozen. Due to the perfect, pure altitude air, allergy sufferers have very few problems here even during the main pollen season. The air is too thin to support troublesome house-dust mites, which cannot survive at this altitude.

People are not born with allergies, they “acquire” them. It is mainly a question of exposure, i.e. which substances a person is exposed to for how long and at what levels. This is exactly where the Holiday for allergy sufferers comes in, providing so-called allergy leave.

As well as seaside areas, a high mountain climate offers the best conditions for an allergy-free, or at least allergy-reduced, break. The low pollen levels in high areas, the low occurrence of mites in house-dust and a low concentration of mildew are three factors which make the weather at altitude allergy-free. Even a two-week holiday, although three is better, noticeably alleviates the condition of those affected, bringing relief and positive effects well after the holiday has ended. Following the example of the nenowned Institute für Verhaltensmedizin (Institute for Behavioral Medicine), an asthma camp for children and young people is now being offered for the first time in Obergurgl. During their stay, they undergo a wide programme of training related to asthmatic behaviour, and at the same time parents are given instructions on how to correctly treat their children with the condition.
