By cycling on moderate rising crushed stone roads you have the opportunity to arrive close to the eternal ice which you can find on an altitude of about 2700 metres above sea level. Driving down on single trails that lead through ancient Swiss stone pines guarantees a lot of fun. Another highlight is the legendary “Ötztal Trail” which is about 75 kilometres long and offers an altitude difference of about 3000 metres– an absolute must for any biker.

Again this year the famous Ötztaler cycle race (Ötztaler Radmarathon) will take place in Sölden. Item the German Tour (“Deutschland Tour”) where the cyclists have to drive to the Rettenbach glacier (Rettenbach Ferner) in Sölden.

Insider Tip Summer world-famous
Hochgurgl is a well-known winter sport location since the 1930ies, noted not only in Austria but also in Europe. But this is not all this region offers: from the end of June until September Obergurgl/Hochgurgl is regarded as an insider tip with its beautiful hiking trails that lead through Alpine rose scented flower fields and Swiss stone pine woods. Surrounded by countless glaciers Hochgurgl is a jewel in the midd le of the mountains, particularly during summer time. An insider tip for hikers, mountain bikers and racing cyclists, the region is situated in the middle of more than 300 mountains which are higher than 3000 meters. The training area of the “Ötztaler summer glacier world” with its gondolas “Hohe Mut Bahn” (2670 m) and “Wurmkogel Bahn” (3080 m) is also used by Professional Cyclists Team from Germany and France (Team Bouygues Telecom). Famous Cyclists such as Giovanni Bernaudeau, Drancourt Pierre, Peter Velits or Steffen Wesemann and Jens Heppner are practicing in Hochgurgl.
