Ötzidorf in Umhausen – Open-air museum – Open-air park
With the discovery of the man in the ice – given the name Ötzi – in 1991, Ötztal has added one more sensation to its cultural treasures. The world famous discoveries from the 4th century BC provide an archaeological landmark for the whole of the Ötztal region, and are, as the name of the glacier mummy indicates, irrevocably bound up with this valley and its mountains.
An adventure for all the family. Plunge into another world from a bygone era and experience a journey through time to visit the people of the New Stone Age. An open-air archaeological park with prehistoric buildings designed to bring you nearer to a primitive race and to illustrate their life, customs and trades. See, feel, take part, experience ancient, long-gone events anew.
The world famous Ötzi discoveries in 1991, and the scientific research connected with these, have enabled this authentic representation of the everyday life of an alpine settlement in the New Stone Age.
The original film sets from the Austrian documentary film "The Ötz Valley Man and his World"
are on display as well as numerous reconstructions, copied from the Tyrol Survival School under the direction of the Institute for Pre- and Early History of the University of Innsbruck.
