1963 was the beginning, not the destination.

In 1963 Roland´s grandfather laid the foundations for the Alpenhotel Laurin in Hochgurgl. Since then, it has been built on, changed, renewed and continuously reimagined. Because a hotel with history doesn´t have to live in the past.

Today´s Laurin carries its heriatage with it, while following its own path.

Responsibility is part of it.

Anyone who lives and works in a place like Hochgurgl knows that many things we take for granted aren´t quite so straightforward. Energy, water, food and short distances take on a different significance at 2150 meters.

That´s why we prefer to talk about concrete measure rather then big promises. Much of this has long been happening behind scenes, while other things are something we continue to develop step by step.

Energie from here. Our solar system supplies around 45% of our electricity needs. It also provides heat for our wellness area and part of our hot water. Together with our heat pump, the energy generated is also used for heating and hot water production.
Our EV charging stations are also powered by electricity from our own solar system. In addition, we source electricity from local suppliers using renewable energy from hydro, solar and windpower.
Water from the Königstal. Our Königstalwater replaces some of the bottled mineral water we would otherwise need. It comes directly from a private spring shared by the hotels in Hochgurgl. For us, Königstal water is not only a little piece of Hochgurgl in a glass, it also helps reduce transport and packing.
As a local makes sense. Wherever possible, we source food from producers and suppliers in the region, including Tirol Milch, honey from the Zillertal and meat from Fleischhof Oberland. This helps keep transport distances shorter while supporting business in our region.

When we renovate, we think local too. As we continue to develop and renovate the Laurin, we prefer to work with local craftspeople and use materials such as stone and wood. This keeps transport distances short and supports local business.
The journey here matters too. Roland´s grandfather was founding member of the Ötztaler Verkehrsgesellschaft. Today, Hochgurgl is accessible by public transport, making it possible to travel part or all the way by train and bus.

Not perfect but considered.

Sustainability isn´t a finished concept for us. It´s made up of many decisions, large and small, that we make in our day-to-day hotel operations and continue to question and rethink along the way.
