Motorcycle Museum X-Point

X-Point – The highest-altitude motorcycle museum in Europe, opened in 2016, destroyed by a major fire in January 2021, and rebuilt exactly 10 months later. The Motorcycle Museum in Hochgurgl – worth more than just one visit…

It is a truly ambitious plan: to combine a motorcycle museum, a modern cable car station, the toll booth of one of the country’s most popular high-altitude roads, and a spacious restaurant all in one building.

Year…2016

Alban and Attila Scheiber had built one of Austria's largest and most valuable collections of historic motorcycles over more than two decades, and in 2016, they created an exceptional and dignified setting for the over 350 exhibits at TOP Mountain Crosspoint – directly on the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road, the most attractive route over the Alps for motorcyclists, in a building with breathtaking architectural design and surrounded by the impressive backdrop of the Ötztal Alps.

Year…2021

Then came the shock: In January 2021, the motorcycle museum, with over 350 unique exhibits, was engulfed in a full blaze and almost completely destroyed – a huge loss for the entire motorcycle and classic car community. However, the entrepreneurs and motorcycle enthusiasts from Hochgurgle, Attila and Alban Scheiber, did not give up on their lifelong dream.
Just a few months after the fire disaster, the TOP Mountain Motorcycle Museum reopened on November 18, 2021 – bigger, more spectacular, more informative, and more immersive!
A new, comprehensive concept with exciting motor stories, historic racing machines, and a diverse, partly interactive program quickly captivated a wide audience.

Year…2022

The Top Mountain Motorcycle Museum is the highest of its kind in Europe and found its fitting home at the border between North and South Tyrol. The museum gained motorcycle legend Giacomo Agostini as its “patron.” The most successful rider in the history of the World Motorcycle Championship, with 15 world titles, personally attended the groundbreaking ceremony and immediately became enthusiastic about the classic motorcycles gathered in Hochgurgl.
… And in March 2022, the official opening ceremony of the “new” TMMM.
On the 4,500 m² exhibition space, treasures like Motoguzzi, MV Augusta, Ducati, BMW, NSU, DKW, Zündapp, Triumph, Sunbeam, Norton, Matchless, A.J.S., Brough Superior, Vincent, Honda, Henderson, Indian, and of course Harley Davidson can be found. Each of the major motorcycle brands is represented from different historical decades, such as Harleys from 1914, 1926, and 1938, as well as from the 1940s and 1950s. Similarly, brands like Triumph, Indian, and BMW are represented in a highly diverse manner. Special highlights include the Brough Superior models, or a twin-cylinder Indian from 1912. And, of course, the MV Augusta with which Giacomo Agostini raced. The oldest piece has a k.u.k. connection – a 1905 Laurin & Klement, the predecessor company to Skoda from Bohemia. In addition to the two-wheeled rarities, some exclusive cars are also on display at the museum, some with racing history, such as the Le Mans Porsches, a Porsche 959, and many other highlights.

In addition to the rare and often antique vintage motorcycles and classic cars from 1885 to the present day – with over 450 exhibits from the start! – which are organized into new time categories and eras, providing visitors with an immersive experience of motor history on an exhibition space of over 4,500 m², the TOP Mountain Motorcycle Museum now offers another major highlight:
The Motor Experience, a multimedia world of experiences with a 4D cinema, a Motor Wall, technical simulations, and, of course, plenty of engine sounds – here, even without a motorcycle license, visitors can experience the thrill of a motorcycle ride with all their senses!

And then: full throttle

After a visit to the motorcycle museum, you’ll be itching to jump on your machine and hit the road.
